Description

I took this with the Moon at 90% illumination! I never do any imaging like this when the Moon is that bright, but I just wanted to...

I took 35 subs at 3 minutes long each, through my 8" reflector, using my Atik 4120EX - all processed through Pixinsight. I almost managed to capture the faint galaxy just NNE of the nebula. It is a barred-spiral galaxy known as IC 1296 and is at magnitude 15.

On a moonless dark night, with more subs, I would have captured it. Under the STF stretch in Pixinsight I could see the object, but actual processing of it was not possible without upsetting the rest of the image, because in order to do so I would have been pushing the data too far.
